Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

‘It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.’
Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice was published #onthisday in 1813. The novel was first published anonymously – at the time an acquaintance of Jane’s brother told him it was ‘much too clever to be the work of a woman’. In the last 200 years, it has sold over 20 million copies and has never been out of print.
