A Christmas Carol

這本小說流傳最廣
妙的是台灣的國科會的漢譯世界名著近年還有一版本

Spotlight:

What came first: the name Ebenezer Scrooge or the word 'scrooge'? The word "scrooge," meaning miser, is an eponym evolving from Charles Dickens' misanthropic character, Ebenezer Scrooge. Dickens' classic Yuletide tale, A Christmas Carol, was first published in England on December 19, 1843. It is the story of the penny-pinching Scrooge and his spiritual transformation through visits guided by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. Scrooge's last name entered the English language to describe a stingy, misanthropic person. Later, Disney gave the name to Donald Duck's skinflint uncle, Scrooge McDuck.

Quote:

"Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has many — not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some." Charles Dickens, from "A Christmas Dinner," the short story that evolved into A Christmas Carol
