Why are Germans so fond of Shakespeare?
William Shakespeare is the most performed playwright in Germany – his works are played more here than in his native Britain. One highlight in the calendar of any German fan of the Bard from Stratford upon Avon has to be the annual Shakespeare festival in Neuss. "Living in Germany" wanted to know why an author who lived over 400 years ago is still so popular in Germany.
